Jordan Aman (Wakefield Chapel) first began diving in the summer of 2007, at the peak of his gymnastics career, for Ravensworth Swim and Dive. Joining the Dive team at Annandale High School, Jordan competed in four years of varsity diving, and finished his senior season as co-team captain. Finishing 7th two years in a row and 4th in the Patriot Districts Championships his junior year, Jordan placed 17th at Regionals in February of 2010. Jordan joined the Wahoo dive team in the summer of 2009, helping coach and lead the team to Divisional Championship. Finishing up his last season of diving, Jordan is going to Florida State University in August to study art.

Carson Barry (Overlee) began his diving career like many others in the NVSL, winning his event at the Cracker Jack Meet in 2004. He has been a part of Overlee Diving ever since, and once won the coveted Team High-Point award, an honor previously awarded to his sister Haley, as well as his father, coach John Barry, during the 1970's and early '80's. Carson has done some great diving, but also had his share of epic smacks, and he always provided his audience some daring acrobatic comedy. In years past, he has also helped with the development and encouragement of our younger divers. He will attend Northern Virginia Community College this Fall.

Ian Clark (Highlands Swim) Throughout his years at McLean High School, Ian was actively involved in symphonic band, marching band, diving, and in his senior year, swimming and rugby. During his three years on the McLean High School dive team, Ian served as the captain for two years and was awarded MVP for those years. Ian has been a proud member of the Highlands Dive team since the fourth grade. Ian served as an assistant dive coach to the team for four years. Ian graduated with honors, was recognized as an AP Scholar, and received the Presidential Award of Academic Excellence. Ian is looking forward to attending the University of Michigan in the fall, where he was accepted into the U of M s research assistants community.

Kelly Corish (Dunn Loring) was a founding member of the Dunn Loring dive team in 2001 when her aunt convinced her to dive. I was a terrible freshman. At my first meet I did a front fall in, a back fall in with help , and a front jump. When Aunt Valerie told me to do a dive with a hurdle, it blew my mind. You can t do that, she thought. She has come a long way since then.

Her NVSL accomplishments include competing in all-stars from 2002 thru 2010 and being champion in 2006 and 2010, being the NVSL division champion in 04, 08, 09, an 2010, being the Wally Martin 3-M champion in 2010, earning the Sportsmanship Award in 02, 04, and 08, earning the Most Inspirational diver Award in 2009, and completing an undefeated season in 2010. Now she has been coaching for the last three years.

She also dove for the James Madison Warhawks where she was captain. She s competed in numerous district, regional, and state meets and was district, regional, and state champ in 2011. She was both an academic and diving All-American. Currently, she is also diving 1M & 3M springboard and platform for Dominion dive club and has qualified for junior nationals of USA diving in platform.

Some of her favorite memories of Dunn Loring diving include the lockins, especially her first at 11 years old when she stayed up all night, jump, twist, dive where she would beat Jimbo, the belly flop contest where the dive coaches creamed the swim coaches, and all-star practice with Bucky and Shea. One of her favorite dive meets was this year s meet against Vienna Woods when the seniors ramped it up to bring it to a tie. She loves all her diving friends and will miss them next year when she attends University of North Carolina to dive and major in elementary education. Best wishes Kelly.

Katie Flach (Woodley) has been a member of the Woodley swim and dive teams since 1999 when she was 6 years old. She has been the assistant coach for our Swim Team for the last 2 years and has been a coach for our Winter Swim program for many years. She has also been a lifeguard for Woodley for the last 4 years. Katie graduated from Bishop O Connell High School and was a member of both the National and Spanish Honor Societies. While at O Connell Katie played Basketball and Lacrosse all four years. She will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall. Katie always has a smile and a word of encouragement for everyone and Woodley Swim and Dive Teams will both miss her next year.

Ryan Fox (Vienna Woods) started diving with the VW dive team in 2001 when he was 8 years old. For the last 11 summers, Ryan has spent hours every day at the pool on the diving boards. From the first season, when he would ride his bike to practice every day with coach Billy, spend hours on the boards hanging out with his friends, to this year, as an assistant coach for the 4th summer, the Vienna Woods dive team has been a major part of his life. He has competed in divisionals every year, qualified for all-stars 8 years, and has competed in the Wally Martin 3 meter meet for 5 years. Ryan s approach to diving is to work hard to improve but to also have fun, and tries to pass on that attitude to all the divers he has had the chance to work with as an assistant coach. Ryan would like to thank all the coaches that have worked with him over the years at Vienna Woods Kevin, Billy, Katie, Matt, Julia, Michelle, John, Allison and Jackie. Ryan will be diving for the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he hopes to study business.

Mikey Glazer (Vienna Woods) began diving with the Vienna Woods Dive Team the summer before he began seventh grade, primarily because several of his friends were on the team. It seemed the perfect activity for him, combining his love of competitive sports with the very real possibility of getting hurt - a difficult combination to resist. Mikey has been a varsity diver at James Madison High School for the past three years. He looks forward to moving to Richmond next month to begin his freshman year at VCU.

Ryan Herron (Sleepy Hollow Bath & Racquet) has been a member of the SHBR Dive Team for 10 years. During this time he set the Senior Boysdiving record for the pool, dove in All-Star meets nearly every year and has been the Assistant Dive Coach for the past two years. Ryan was a standout student at JEB Stuart High School where he received a full IB Diploma. He was a member of the Stuart Swim and Dive team for four years and set the school diving record as a sophomore. He was a four year starter for the Stuart baseball team where he was named a District All Star in all four years. Ryan is also a passionate skateboarder. He will study at Boston College in the fall and plans to dive for the Eagles.

Treanor Jones (Vienna Woods) started diving at VW when he was 8 years old. He joined to be with his friends and his brother David. Treanor would frequently stay at the pool all day, along with his friends, perfecting his 1 1/2's and cannonballs. He continued the fun during the winter on the Madison dive team with his Vienna Woods dive friends. In the fall he will head to University of South Carolina to study business. He would like to thank his mom and dad for giving him money to eat at the pool snack bar after dive practice.

Travis Lauri (Villa Aquatics) has been on the Villa Swim team since age 9 and on the Dive team for 2 years. He graduated from Fairfax High School where he was on the swim team all 4 years. Travis will be attending George Mason University and swimming on the Varsity Squad. Travis would like to thank Coach Christy for convincing him to join the dive team and putting up with his lack of practice participation.

Jeff Peckins
(Villa Aquatics) joined the Villa Gorillas swim team when he was 5 years old and has swum on the team for thirteen years. However after encouragement from Coach Christy, he decided to join the dive team this past year. Jeff went to W.T Woodson high school and ran varsity cross-country and track there for all four years, being a captain his senior year. Jeff s most memorable moments on the Villa dive team were smacking every day at practice and also watching him and his teammates grow and succeed in learning new dives. Jeff will be majoring in University Studies at Virginia Tech in the fall. He would like to thank his parents, friends, and coaches for always supporting him and encouraging him to be the best person he could be. Jeff s advice to the younger Gorillas is to always try your hardest, but to remember to have fun in the process.

Heather Lynn Magill (Pinecrest) At age 5 her older sister convinced her to do a flip off of the 3 meter board and from then on she was hooked on diving. Heather began diving at the inception of the Pinecrest Dive Team in the year 2000. Each year she wanted to improve to be the best. This drove her to dive year round as a member of the Patriot Dive Club and Dominion Dive Club for four years and 11 years for the NVSL. During her Junior Olympic training at the Patriot Dive Club she earned 1st Place in the regional USA Diving competitions in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. For 3 years she started as the technique coach at Pinecrest and moved up to assistant coach and ultimately promoted to the Head Dive coach her final year.

Heather graduated with an advanced from Westfield High School as a captain of the Swim and Dive team for 3 years. Setting school records for both the 6 and 11 dive formats, she broke her own record each of those years successively. Voted Rookie of the year her freshman year, she was a member of the district and regional teams all 4 years and a member of the 2011VA State Championship Team her senior year. Culminating her career at Westfield, she was voted the Golden Athlete Award which is presented to the highest scoring athletes of the year.

While in high school Heather was an honor roll student and also participated in soccer, cheerleading and cross country. She lettered all four years in dive and 2 years in soccer. She was a member of the DECA competition team as well as volunteering her time with Best Buddies and Helping Hands. Heather has volunteered within the community with Homes for Our Troops, Christmas in April, Local Senior Center and the Wolff Campaign.

Heather has accepted an appointment to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and a scholarship for Diving. Heather s goal is to help VMI win in Division One Competition and graduate VMI with a degree in Biology. She then wants to continue her education with a Masters Degree in Marine Biology.

Jacob Jake Retting (Mantua) has been on the Mantua team since 2001. This is his third year as one of the Mantua coaches. He was on the Woodson Varsity team for all four years of high school and was captain his senior year. He has been to Divisionals every year since 2002. He graduated from W.T. Woodson High School and will be attending Radford University in the fall

Connor Shannon's (Mantua) diving career started at the age of 4, even before he fully learned how to swim. His oldest sister, Danielle was on the Mantua dive team and they were kind enough to give him a dive shirt, dubbed him a Mantua dive mascot and let him take a picture with the team. Ever since then, he has been diving. He also dove for W.T. Woodson. This fall, he is exploring many opportunities, including school, Navy and taking extra classes so he can obtain a certificate for fitness & health.

Karen Sible (Tuckahoe) has been involved in the NVSL since she was 7 years old, where she was a member of the Tuckahoe Swim Team. When she was 11 years old, she joined the dive team and she received many awards, such as Coaches Award and Age Group Champ. She has been the assistant coach of the Tuckahoe dive team for 3 years and loves working with all the kids. Karen graduated from Yorktown High School. She was an honor student and participated in many community service organizations. She was an active member of field hockey, soccer, and track teams. She was also a member of the dive team during her senior year. Karen will be attending Radford University in the fall where she hopes o hold a major in the medical field.

Emily Sturges (Woodley) has been a member of the Woodley Swim and Dive Teams since 2003 when she was 10 years old. She was the assistant Dive Coach for 2009 & 2010 and is now our Head Coach for 2011. She has also been a coach for our Winter Swim program for many years. Emily has been a lifeguard for Woodley for the last 4 years. Emily graduated from Falls Church and was a member of the National and Art Honor Societies. While at Falls Church, Emily played 3 sports for all 4 years: Field Hockey, Swim & Dive, & Softball. She was named to the District ALL TEAM for Swim in 2008 & 2009 and All Regional Team for Softball in 2010. She will be attending VCU in the fall and plans to major in Art Education. As Dive coach, Emily has been a wonderful role model for our team and we will miss her next year.

Alex Wadle (Tuckahoe) joined Tuckahoe's Dive Team at the age of 7. He has received many awards from the team including Most Improved, Most Valuable Diver, and Club Champion. He placed at Crackerjack once and at divisionals 3 times. Alex has been an assistant coach for 2 years at Tuckahoe- loving every minute spent with the kids. Alex has been actively involved in Scout Troop 1128 for 7 years, earning the rank of Eagle this past winter. Alex plans to pursue a degree in the Information Technology field. He will begin his college experience at NOVA in the fall.

Amelia Ward (Chesterbrook) began diving at age 4 with the Valiant Vermack Vikings in Dunwoody, Georgia and has competed every summer since. After moving to Arlington, VA, when she was five, she joined the Chesterbook Dive team and has been very involved both as a diver and coach. Throughout her fifteen years of diving, she has competed in All-Stars and Divisionals, multiple times, yet her proudest moment as a diver was when she was crowned Crackerjack champion at age 8. She was so excited she wore the medal for several days. Amelia started coaching unofficially for two years because she had to ride to the pool with her older brother (who was actually paid for coaching the team). She was then hired to coach on the staff for the next three years. Amelia also dove for Williamsburg Middle School and then Yorktown High School until she discovered rowing. She spent three years on the crew team and was the first varsity coxswain her senior year. Through the sport of diving she has made lifelong friends and learned valuable lessons that she will use her entire life. Coaching has also led her to discover her love for working with children. Amelia will be attending Tulane University in New Orleans, LA this fall.
